| Page: Time Needed to Start a Carpet Cleaning Business |
This is one of the most frequently asked questions we receive from this website. We live in a society that demands instant results so it is natural to consider "timing" when starting up a new business. Of course this also is a critical issue if you need income immediately.
The good news is that with a proper outline providing the new business owner with the sequence of specific steps needed to start up a business, he or she can be up and running in a minimum amount of time. I've personally seen men and women completely unfamiliar with carpet cleaning earning their first income within a month. This is especially possible when starting with a basic residential cleaning business and working their way into the carpet cleaning business. I recall one young father who researched the field online, rented a typical store carpet cleaning machine and started earning an income within 48 hours of reading our business plan.
The thing to watch out for is taking too much time in analyzing each and every step too much. There is an old saying in marketing about those who "analyze until they are paralyzed". That of course doesn't mean you should just start spending money on every marketing plan or piece of equipment out there. It means the new business person should find a trusted person who can provide them with the benefit of their experience.
When starting a business from scratch, there are certain steps to be taken and preparation to be made which enables a smooth running business startup in a minimum amount of time. The challenge is knowing those steps and which are worthwhile and which are simply a waste of time and money.
So in answer to the original question; from my experience a person with little or no experience can start up and run a profitable carpet cleaning business within a month if they follow an established business plan and have a reasonable buget to work with.
The idea is to start out doing only basic jobs which they feel comfortable with. Over time they will gain experience cleaning various types of carpet and using their equipment properly. Just remember the first step is to get some direction from those who are experienced in the field.
